Questions & answers

1. How did the idea of turning Hotel Princess into a Bitcoin hotel come about?

At first we were a completely normal, traditional hotel, and then we simply combined our hobby with the classic hotel. This is how the idea of making the world's first Bitcoin hotel was born, because we recognized that Bitcoin is often intangible. We wanted to make Bitcoin tangible by creating a physical place where Bitcoin enthusiasts could meet. Bitcoin is often only present on the Internet or can be found in books and podcasts, but there are few real connections. We have therefore combined our passion for Bitcoin with the existing hotel.

2. What reactions and feedback have you received from your guests regarding the Bitcoin integration? And what do guests who are not interested in Bitcoin think of it?

The responses are extremely good. Sure, there are always a few people who have something to complain about. But Bitcoin is a superior form of money, and it won't go away. Bitcoin will increasingly find its way into the mainstream, and it will be normal to pay with Bitcoin in a hotel. Most guests who know Bitcoin celebrate it extremely. Even regular customers who have nothing to do with Bitcoin find it interesting and often open up cool conversations. Of course, there are always a few critics, but the vast majority of responses are positive. We're getting great feedback, we're in newspapers and on TV, and we've even started our own YouTube channel, which is very successful.

3. What challenges did you have to overcome when implementing Bitcoin payments and the associated infrastructure?

The biggest challenge is your own human blockage. Many people are critical of new things. If you overcome this blockage, it's no problem at all to implement Bitcoin payments. Anyone can start with a simple mobile wallet. You don't have to convert the entire hotel to Bitcoin right away, but you can start with a first payment and then expand. The biggest mistake would be not to start. There is no upper limit.

4. How are you planning to further expand Bitcoin acceptance in your hotel?

There is no need to further expand Bitcoin acceptance, as you can already pay with Bitcoin. What we can expand is additional Bitcoin offerings. We already offer workshops and events and have Bitcoin theme rooms, a Satoshi bar, and Bitcoin cappuccino. We are creative people and always have ideas on how to reach the next level. We've also launched a YouTube channel to reach even more people online. This allows us to reach millions of people, not just those who come to the hotel physically.

5. What role does Hotel Princess play in the local Bitcoin community around Plochingen and how do you promote exchange among like-minded people?

We play a very important role, not only in Plochingen, but throughout the German-speaking region and perhaps even internationally. We are a model model that anyone can adopt. It's not only worthwhile from a Bitcoin perspective, but also from a business perspective. Companies based on the Bitcoin standard are more profitable. Sooner or later, Bitcoin is going to catch on, and everyone has to deal with it. Showcase projects such as our Bitcoin Hotel, Bitcoin Ekasi or Bitcoin Beach are important for real-world adoption. We see ourselves as a first mover and an important part of Bitcoin adoption.

6. What benefits do you see in using Bitcoin for your customers, and also for you as a company?

Bitcoin is money without central entities, banks, or intermediaries. It provides fair and transparent money. International customers don't have to convert to euros first, for example, but can pay directly with Bitcoin. Many people, including bitcoiners, still pay with fiat money because they don't want to spend their valuable Bitcoin. But Bitcoin is also a means of payment, and when someone pays with Bitcoin, Bitcoin adoption is driven forward. It is also a form of appreciation when you pay with Bitcoin.

7. What was the most exciting Bitcoin event or workshop you've organized at the hotel so far?

It's hard to say because we've had a lot of great events already. For example, we had the book presentation of Marc Friedrich or Sunny Decree or Bitcoin im Ländle with Prince Philipp of Serbia and Knut Svanholm and many more. Many great personalities have already stayed at the hotel, not only from Germany but also internationally. We also had workshops with asset managers who want to offer self-custody to their clients. It's hard to pick a cool moment. The process of constantly creating new cool events and synergy effects is the most exciting thing.

8. How do you see the future of Bitcoin in the hospitality industry and what developments do you expect?

I can't say much about it because I'm not that deep into the catering industry. You can accept Bitcoin as a payment medium and attract new customers. There are many benefits, such as no transaction fees and instant settlement with Lightning. But the question is how quickly the catering industry will adopt it. Restaurateurs are often very busy and have little time to learn about Bitcoin. That is the hindering factor in adoption. If you don't deal with Bitcoin, you won't open yourself up to it. It remains to be seen how this develops.

9. Can you tell us something about the “Hodler Suite” and its special equipment?

The Hodler Suite was designed by Lina Seiche, the creator of Little Hodler. That's a well-known Bitcoin meme. The suite is furnished in Bitcoin Hodler style, with various comics, our very own Princess Hodler, the Bitcoin standard and books by Knut Svanholm. There is a Bitcoin book in every room. There are also Bitcoin cups and other gimmicks. There are small things about Bitcoin, little Easter eggs, all over the hotel. Feel free to visit us if you want to sleep like real Bitcoiners.

10. How do you combine the personal touch of a family-run hotel with modern digital solutions?

Our hotel is very well digitalized. There is online check-in, you can open the room door with your smartphone, book rooms and control everything via a web-based browser app. You don't have to download anything, you have your invoices and you can book things in addition. This appeals to digitally savvy people who appreciate uncomplicated solutions. There are no waiting times at reception, you can check in directly and don't have to do anything when checking out. Many people find this digital workflow very good. Feel free to visit us, even at a Bitcoin event. We're looking forward to seeing you!
