In this article, we would like to draw your attention to current scams using examples. We also want to make you aware of how important it is to carefully protect your data and not share it with third parties.
Fraudsters are increasingly impersonating employees of companies such as Coinfinity and sending fraud victims messages via email, SMS, Facebook, WhatsApp and other messaging services.
In doing so, the scammers often promise high profits or they fake a problem that can only be solved by sending Bitcoin to another address, for example. In other cases, they pretend that a bank transfer to a supposed Coinfinity IBAN is necessary in order to receive a Bitcoin payout.
Here is an example of such a scam message:
Coinfinity never contacts you via Facebook, Whatsapp, or other messaging services to discuss matters regarding your account. We only communicate with our customers via the live chat in our app or in our online portal, as well as using the following email addresses support@coinfinity.co and sales@coinfinity.co. It is possible to book a call back through Coinfinity, but this call back is always made using the following telephone number: +43 316 711 744.
For example, if someone contacts you via WhatsApp or Facebook and pretends to be an employee of Coinfinity, it is most likely a scam!
Coinfinity will never ask you to enter personal details or Bitcoin addresses anywhere indiscriminately. Coinfinity will also never ask you to transfer your Bitcoin to another wallet for security reasons or send money to an unknown IBAN. If you have asked for assistance for buying or selling Bitcoin, or need help with the registration or verification, this assistance is provided exclusively via our live chat or email from support@coinfinity.co and sales@coinfinity.co. We will only contact you via phone at your request.
So if someone asks you for your data (in particular bank details, credit card details, or Bitcoin addresses) or asks you to install a program such as AnyDesk, then it is most likely a scam!
Coinfinity is a company based in Austria. We currently have no other branches or offices in other countries. If someone claims that they are calling from the Coinfinity branch in London or Berlin, for example, it is most likely a scam!
Your best protection against such scams is to be alert and read messages carefully. Pay attention to the quality of the language and common spelling and grammar mistakes. Always question the usefulness of such messages - the pretexts and alleged solutions of fraudsters make absolutely no sense in most cases!
Let's take the scam message shown earlier as an example and highlight the alarming elements:
Always remember: If something is too good to be true, it is a lie. For example, if someone claims that large sums of Bitcoin are waiting for you on a wallet even though you have invested nothing or only a little sum in Bitcoin so far, then this is an attempt at fraud.
Always be skeptical of unsolicited messages or calls and review all inquiries concerning your account with Coinfinity or your Bitcoin very carefully. If anything seems suspicious to you, please contact our support team immediately via the live chat in the app and explain the situation.
If you feel unsafe or have already suffered a loss, please contact the police immediately and provide them with all information about the online fraudsters so that they can take appropriate action. In such cases, Coinfinity works closely with law enforcement authorfities and supports them in investigating these crimes.
Remember: If in doubt, you can always contact us — we're here for you.
